Under the watchful eye of Coach Chad Green and a few enthusiastic parents, the Plano lineman team took top honors at the Wylie Lineman Challenge Thursday evening.
Competing against teams from Jesuit, Sachse, and Wylie (which fielded a JV team as well as a varsity team), Plano dominated such challenges as the weighted-John Deere Gator push and the farmer’s walk.
More traditional challenges included bench press reps, clean and press reps, weighted sled pull, and an “obstacle” course. The obstacles involved vertical jumps to stands of different heights; placement of heavy dumb bells on elevated stands; over and under track hurdles of varying heights; football pass for accuracy; and, the tractor tire flip.
This was the last planned lineman challenge in advance of the state tournament to be held in Duncanville on July 20, though Coach Green and the players are searching for perhaps one more local challenge between now and July 20 to further hone their techniques.
