Coach Steve Thomas – 26 Years Ago

Reading about Plano lineman coach Steve Thomas and his new knees brought back memories of Coach Thomas and his linemen to Plano football alum Douglas McCarley.

“This photo of Coach Thomas instructing his offensive linemen is from the ’85 game against J.J. Pearce. Plano won 51-21, and I believe set a single game rushing record (for that time) of 485 yards. That game also happened to be Coach Tom Kimbrough’s 100th win as Plano’s Head Coach – 100-16-4.”

“The average size of our offensive linemen then was 6 foot, 205 pounds. Different times back then.”

Indeed different times. But while the size of the O-linemen have changed, the Wildcats continue to learn at the knee of Coach Steve Thomas. Albeit a titanium knee now.

Video – Linemen Bench Press At Wylie

In their sixth and final station at the Wylie Lineman Challenge, the Wildcats once again went for reps with the weights, this time in the bench press. Still smarting from the clean and press station, the linemen dug deep and pushed through the muscle fatigue to score on this challenge.
