A strong Plano Wildcats JV season ended last evening on a down note with a 20-42 loss to the Allen Eagles JV on Plano’s home turf in John Clark Stadium.  The Eagles JV spoiled the JV Wildcats attempt for an undefeated record against district opponents this season.

Nonetheless, the JV Wildcats ended the 2012 season 4-1 in district play, and 7-3 overall.

The final game started with a Wildcats kickoff.  With ball in hand, the Eagles first possession lasted 7 1/2 minutes, finally ending with a pass for a TD and PAT.  The 1st quarter ended 7-0 Eagles with Plano driving on offense.

Plano’s offensive response came just a minute into the 2nd quarter with a rushing TD by #3 Brandon Stephens and PAT by #96 Colton Gier.    Allen countered three minutes later with a rushing TD of  their own, going up 14-7.  The half ended with an Allen interception on the goal line that saved them from a Plano TD.  At the half it was Allen 14, Plano 7.

The 3rd quarter saw a flurry of scoring activity.  Allen struck first with a rushing TD with 6:17 left in the quarter, and again at the 3;15 mark, putting them up 28-7.  Plano completed their own rushing drive for a TD, this time with # 39 Connor Welch taking the ball across the goal line.  With just under two minutes left in the quarter Plano had narrowed the gap to 28-14, but Allen responded with an offensive blitz that resulted with another 7 points on the scoreboard for them with just 14 seconds on the clock for the quarter.

A minute and a half into the 4th quarter #39 Welch took the ball across the goal line again for the Wildcats, but the Eagles penetrating special teams blocked an otherwise good PAT kick, leaving Plano down 35-20.  Allen  closed the quarter with another rushing TD at the 1:14 mark, and despite a spirited one-minute offensive drill lead by #22 Jonathon Lara the game ended without additional scoring.  Final – Plano JV 20, Allen JV 42.

We’re advised by Eagles JV coach Brandon Stewart that with this win the JV Eagles end their season 5-0 in the district and 9-1 overall.

2012 JV Wildcats Sweep West, City, With 28-7 Win (Updated)

The JV Wildcats became 2012 city champs with their 28-7 victory Thursday evening over the Plano West Wolves JV in John Clark Stadium.  The JV Wildcats defeated the Plano East Panthers JV last week 27-8, an eerily similar similar final score as this week’s.  Perhaps a little Halloween mystique carried over into November for the JV Wildcats.

The 7-2 JV Wildcats took the opening kickoff and behind 6 running plays and 2 passes scored from 2 yards out on a run by QB #22 Jonathon Lara to make the score 6-0 at the 6:43 mark of the 1st quarter. The PAT was added by #96 Colton Gier. Plano kicked off to Plano West, who were driving north to south. The Wolves fumbled the second play from scrimmage and Wildcats linebacker # 21 Ryan Grambow recovered.  The Wildcats drove and scored on a short run by #3 Brandon Stephens at the 4:17 mark of the 1st quarter to make it 13-0.  The PAT was once again good by Gier.  The 1st quarter ended with the Wildcats ahead 14-0.

The 2nd quarter was scoreless.  The Wildcats led at half 14-0.

Neither team made any headway in the 3rd quarter until a Wildcats 41 yard punt  backed the Wolves up to their own 2 yard line.  The Wolves finally broke into the scoring column, with a 98 yard pass and run to make the score. The Wildcats remained in the lead, 14-7, going into the 4th quarter.

The teams traded punts until the 4:39 mark of the 4th quarter where #22 Lara recovered a fumbled punt at the Wolves 10 yard line.  Two plays later, and backed up to the 15, Lara hit #42 Colby Cantu with a 15 yard TD pass, and along with Gier’s PAT ran the score up to 21-7. At the 2:37 mark of the final frame the Wolves turned the ball over on downs at their own 10 and #27 Matt Keys ran it in from there and with the PAT made the final score Plano JV 28, Plano West JV 7.

2012 JV Wildcats Prevail Over JV Panthers 27-8

“We can’t go to playoffs, but we can be districts champs!”
Such was the post-game message delivered by Wildcats Coach Kevin May after the JV Wildcats solid win over the JV Panthers Thursday at John Clark Stadium.

Under threatening gray skies with strong wind blowing straight from the North, the JV Wildcats offense was like an approaching storm.  They sprinkled in the first half and unleashed a downpour in the second half.

The Wildcats received the opening kickoff for a 1st quarter where both teams largely spent their time between mid-field and the south 30yd line, testing each other.  The stalemate finally broke literally at the ending horn for the quarter with a Panther passing play for a touchdown.  Baring their teeth, the Panthers went for a two-point play which was good.

The 2nd quarter started with the Panthers in the lead 8-0, but three minutes in #42 Colby Cantu pulled down a pass to put 6 points on the board for the Wildcats.  Not to be out-done, the Wildcats went for two and the Wildcats line made it possible for #4 T.J.Lee to execute.  With 7:18 left in the 2nd quarter the teams were tied 8-8, and that was the score at halftime as the Wildcats went to the locker room and the Panthers huddled for warmth in the south end of the stadium.

The Wildcats kicked off the 3rd quarter, and the Panthers offensive momentum was spoiled at the 9:21 mark by an interception by #16 Nathan Nguyen.   Five and a half minutes of regulation play later #3 Brandon Stephens scored on a running play, and #96 Colton Gier’s PAT kick was good, and the Wildcats were up 15-8.  With just 31 seconds left in the quarter #6 Matt Kirchner pull down a pass for a TD and the Wildcats increased their lead to 21-8.

The 4th quarter added to the frustration of the Panthers as the Wildcats defense pressured and pounded throughout.  The final scoring of the game came at the 6:07 mark when quarterback #27 Matt Keys called his own number and trotted across the goal line to put the Wildcats up 27-8, which was the final score.

With the win the JV Wildcats stand 3-0 in district play, over half way to their goal of being district champs.  Their final two games will be played in Clark Stadium, an advantage for the Wildcats on their run to the title.

At halftime Plano was up 27-0.

The Wildcats put up two more TD’s in the 3rd quarter to make it 41-0.
