Plano JV Season 5-0 After 37-22 Win Over Hebron JV

Halfway through the 2011 season, the Wildcats JV team is undefeated, thanks to a 37-22 win over Hebron JV on September 29.

Plano scored first with 5:43 left in the 1st quarter, and a fumble recovery fifteen seconds later by sophomore #4 Billy Pearson denied Hebron momentum in the first quarter.  Seconds into the 2nd quarter #95 John Cummings kicked a field goal and Plano was up 9-0.

Hebron pulled within two points with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter, but Plano’s special teams responded with a touchdown scored by junior #34 Andre Morman returning the Hebron kick-off with 6:16 left in the half.  We happened to capture video of that return:

The teams went to halftime with Plano up 16-14.  Hebron would never be that close again, as Plano added 14 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter, and another 7 points in the 4th quarter to Hebron’s 8 points.  As Coach Richardson points out in his post-game interview, the win over Hebron’s JV was something special.

Plano JV Snubs Allen JV 14-7 – Full Report

The Plano Wildcats JV controlled the Allen Eagles JV during their 2011 match-up on September 22 night, keeping the Eagles out of the end zone until 2:23 in the 4th quarter.

Both teams tested each other through the first quarter, but with 8:06 left in the half #19 Dylan Muckey made a key interception for Plano, taking the ball to the Allen 14 yard line.  That interception set up a series that ended with a quarterback keeper into the end zone by #22 Corey Robertson, followed by a PAT by #95 John Cummings, putting Plano up 7-0.  Plano would lead the rest of the game.

Going into the third quarter up 7-0, the Wildcats offense struck again with a rushing touchdown by #29 Dearion Johnson and another Cummings PAT.  The Wildcats were up 14-0 with 5:09 remaining in the third quarter, and that score would hold until the Eagles finally scored late in the 4th.

For the first time this season Plano JV rotated quarterbacks, starting the game with #24 Christian Hutzler, who alternated with #22 Corey Robertson.   With their leadership the Wildcats JV racked up 96 yards rushing and 78 yards passing, with 11 first downs.

JV 28-10 Victory Over Mansfield Legacy Worth The Long Drive

The September 8  drive to Mansfield’s Legacy High School was a long ride for the Plano Wildcats JV, but the ride home must have seemed shorter with a win in their pockets and a 3-0 record heading into a bye week.

The JV Wildcats started with sparks in the first quarter with an interception by #19 Dylan Muckey, followed less than two minutes later with a pass to #10 Tanner Garfat who ran the ball into the end zone.  With a PAT by # 95 John Cummings Plano was up 7-0.

But that spark sputtered as a special teams error gave the Broncos 2 points on a safety in the second quarter, the only additional points scored by either team in the first half.

With Plano receiving the ball to start the 3rd quarter, a pass to #2 Corbin Whitehair and another good PAT put Plano up 14-2 with 7:11 left in the third quarter.

JV Smokes Lakeview Centennial 43-0

In the August 25 season opener for Plano Wildcats football, the JV team caught fire, scoring almost every conceivable way save for a field goal, and even that method was attempted.

JV QB #22 Corey Robertson./Photo by Thad Fenton

With junior quarterback #22 Corey Robertson steering the offense, the Wildcats scored on the ground with 3 rushing touchdowns by sophomore #29 Dearion Johnson and 1 by junior #46 Jamal Crayton.

In the air, freshman #26 Parker Meyers scored a touchdown as receiver on offense.

Kicking, junior #95 John Cummings put 5 points on the board with PAT’s.

But the offense wasn’t alone in scoring for the Wildcats.

Early in the second quarter the Wildcats defense had pinned Lakeview Centennial in their own red zone and forced them to punt. Apparently the deep snapper had Plano’s intimidating defensive line on the mind, and he snapped the ball over the punter’s head. The ball rolled through and out of the end zone. Safety. Score 2 for the defense. But that wasn’t the end of defensive scoring.

Well into the second half, Lakeview Centennial was in Plano’s half of the field and driving. But junior #19 Dylan Muckey intercepted and couldn’t be stopped for what appeared to be an 85-yard scamper into the end zone for a defensive touchdown.

Offensive highlights from the stands (unofficial)- Passing, QB Corey Robertson was 12 of 19 with no interceptions . . . Receiving – junior #11 Corbin Whitehair had 3 receptions for 35 yards, junior #81 Bert McJunkin had 2 receptions for 36 yards, #26 Parker Meyers had 2 receptions for 35 yards and a TD, and sophomore #27 Drew Grant had 2 receptions for 4 yards . . . Rushing – #29 Dearion Johnson had 11 carries for 70 yards and 3 TD’s, #22 Corey Robertson carried 3 times for 20 yards, #46 Jamal Crayton had 8 carries for 24 yards and 1 TD . . . #95 John Cummings kicked 5 PAT’s, punting twice for an average of 26 yards.

Sophomore #7 Jordan Phillips fielding one of many Centennial punts.

Defensive highlights from the stands (unofficial)- Opponent denied any scoring opportunity . . . 10 tackles for losses, several of which were sacks . . . a safety from pressure on the deep snapper.

Worthy of special mention- It appears no penalties were called against the JV Wildcats in the game, perhaps a first for any season opener.

Our take on the final score – Plano JV-43, Garland Lakeview Centennial JV-0.
