Jr. Jonathon Lara fires strike during scrimmage

Thursday night the Plano Wildcats staged their annual Maroon and White game as they concluded spring practice for 2013.

With the 140 or so players divided evenly both sided battled under an overcast sky at Clark Field in front of mainly parents and some long time Wildcat fans.

With no score being kept here are some high lights of the action: Junior Jonathon Lara played QB for both teams at times and was seen throwing a TD pass to Matt Kirchner early and scoring on a keeper later. Lara showed excellent poise when he was taking snaps. Sophomore Brooks Panhans took snaps also and ran a keeper in from about 30 yards out. Freshman Matt Keys looked sharp when he entered the game as QB as he had some excellent runs.

On defense many players shifted around and wore different numbers so it was hard to ID some, however Junior all district linebacker David Griffith was seen making many stops. In the defensive backfield  Junior Collin Carpenter was seen breaking up a pass on a comebacker.

Overall the Wildcats looked quite spirited and with 3 starters missing due to the baseball playoffs the Wildcats and their fans have to be very encouraged about their prospects for the 2013 season. Winning is never easy nor are playoff spots given out in the spring however the Wildcats and their coaches will continue to work hard during the summer to improve and be ready for the 2013 football campaign. Go Wildcats.

A special thank you to Thad Fenton for furnishing both pictures of the scrimmage for our use. Thad took many more shots and they are available for your purchase at his website: WWW.THADFENTON.COM

Blake McJunkin to Packers Mini Camp

It has been recently announced that former Wildcat all district lineman and recent SMU grad Blake McJunkin  6’2″ 301 has agreed with the Green Bay Packers to attend their soon to be held rookie minicamp held annually in Green Bay. The Packers saw McJunkin work out at the SMU Pro-Day  held last month before they extended the invitation to him.

Blake played both center and guard with the Ponies and helped them to three bowl games during his time on The Hill.

The Packers are in need of offensive line help and will be looking closely at players who might help them at those positions. We wish Blake the best of luck in Wisconsin.
